One of the best solo games out there, Deep Space D-6 is a dice chucker worker placement delight!
Yes, this is one of my favourite solo games ever with its "choose your own adventure" look, simple art and plenty of dice rolling and worker placement decisions.
You'll discover that being in charge of a spaceship constantly under attack with a crew difficult to curb is not an easy task.
The one with the Quantum Cannon and the Rocket Launcher, the one with the Drones or the one a bit more balanced with the simple Laser guns.
Once you've made your choice, reveal the first two enemies and then start rolling dice and dish out orders to keep your spaceship afloat!
The worker placement aspect is very straightforward, each spaceship has different control rooms (stations) each with specific abilities and each matching one of the dice faces, you just need to assign what you rolled as efficiently as you can to survive.
But it wouldn't be a good solo game if there was no impediment throwing your plans out of the window and making your life difficult.
In DSD-6 this impediment is identifiable in the soulless Scanner dice...
Rolling the dreaded grey donut rectangles means that those dice will be locked until you either use an ability to unlock them or once the scanners are filled and I can tell you that, in this game, every single dice counts. And that is not the only way you can lose dice, as your crew can get injured, forcing you to spend one of your other precious dice to get them back up and running again.
A game of DSD-6 will lead you through a journey of excitement, anger, joy, keeping you focused turn after turn and damning those pesky dice! Forget about long term strategy this game is all about short tactics, trying to always make the best out of the dice you rolled.
I cannot recommend this enough to all solo gamers out there.... if it's not yet in your board gaming library I suggest you start looking on-line to see where you can get a copy!
